You and Dr. Powell
Pre-treatment Appointments
Initial Visit
At the initial visit, Dr. Powell will meet with you to conduct a thorough examination and to obtain a medical/dental history. He will discuss his findings and will explain what treatment is recommended, if any. If ready for treatment, diagnostic records can be taken.
Records
Diagnostic records are made to determine the best course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records typically include plaster study models of the teeth, photos of the patient's face and teeth, and X-rays. This information is used to plan a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.
Consultation
After Dr. Powell has evaluated your records, we will meet to discuss your treatment with you in detail, including the estimated treatment time, and the cost for your particular case.
Payment and Office Policies
Cost
Since Dr. Powell develops individual treatment plans for each patient, it is impossible to determine treatment fees prior to seeing the patient. We are willing to set up flexible payment plans and to help you in submitting claims to your insurance company. We do not want finances to stand in the way of a nice, healthy smile.
Fees & Insurance
We make every effort to accommodate, inform, and assist our patients with financial arrangements. As a courtesy and service to our patients, we gladly file and accept assignment of orthodontic insurance. Our office provides several reasonable payment options to assist with the cost of orthodontic treatment fees.
OFP, Orthodontists Fee Plan, is a financing payment plan which offers payment arrangements without a down payment and monthly payments for up to 60 months, with a competitive interest rate. The American Association of Orthodontists has endorsed OFP. You can visit their web site at www.orthofeeplan.com.
Our in-office payment plan consists of an initial down payment with the remaining balance divided into equal monthly payments, without interest. In order to make payment arrangements as convenient as possible, we offer at no additional charge, auto-draft service from a checking or savings account and auto-charge service to a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. These options save both time and money for our patients…no checks to write or stamps to buy!
As an added bonus, we offer an accounting discount for payments made in full at the start of treatment. Additional family members who start orthodontic treatment may benefit by receiving a multi-family member discount, whether they start now or later.
We are always looking for new ways to make financial arrangements manageable and more convenient. By keeping our financial arrangements simple and our patients informed, our patients can concentrate on their treatment, and not be distracted by finances.

What is the tax advantage with OFP?
Many families have saved several hundred dollars on their taxes by using OFP ! This is because the ENTIRE orthodontic fee can be added to your other medical expenses THIS YEAR even though you spread out payments over 2-4 years. This is a smart way to maximize your tax savings.
The IRS allows you to deduct all medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. With OFP simply add your ENTIRE orthodontic fee to your other medical expenses to estimate your tax deduction.
